Introduction
BigDevelop (“we,” “our,” or “us”) built MacroSnapper as an AI-powered calorie and macro tracking app. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection and use.
The short version: MacroSnapper stores all your food logs, macro goals, and preferences locally on your device. When you use the AI photo analysis feature, your food photo is sent to OpenAI for processing. We do not operate our own servers and do not collect or store any of your data.
Information We Collect
We do NOT collect personal information.
MacroSnapper does not collect, store, or have access to any personal information on our servers. We do not have accounts, analytics, or tracking. All data remains on your device.
Data stored locally on your device only:
- Your daily food log entries (food names, calories, macros)
- Your custom macro goals (calories, protein, carbs, fat targets)
- Your OpenAI API key (stored in local app storage)
- Food photos you take (stored temporarily for analysis)
AI Photo Analysis
When you snap a food photo for AI analysis, the following occurs:
- Your food photo is sent directly from your device to OpenAI's API for nutritional analysis
- The photo is transmitted using your own OpenAI API key
- We (BigDevelop) never see, receive, or store your photos
- OpenAI processes the image and returns estimated nutritional data
- OpenAI's data handling is governed by their own privacy policy
You can also use the manual entry feature to log food without using AI analysis, in which case no data leaves your device at all.
Your API Key
MacroSnapper requires an OpenAI API key to power the AI photo analysis feature. Your API key is stored locally on your device and is only used to authenticate requests directly with OpenAI. We never transmit, collect, or have access to your API key. You are responsible for managing your own API key and any associated costs from OpenAI.
Camera Access
MacroSnapper requests camera access to let you photograph your meals for AI analysis. Camera access is used solely for this purpose. Photos are processed for nutritional analysis and are not stored permanently unless saved to your device's photo library by your choice.
No Analytics, No Tracking, No Ads
MacroSnapper does not integrate with any analytics, advertising, or tracking services. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, crash reporting, or any similar services. The app contains no advertisements.
Children's Privacy
MacroSnapper is not directed at children under 13. Since we do not collect personal information on our servers, there is no risk of collecting children's data. However, the AI photo analysis feature requires an OpenAI API key and account, which has its own age requirements.
Data Security
All food logs and preferences are stored locally using your device's built-in secure storage. Communications with OpenAI's API are encrypted via HTTPS. We recommend keeping your device's operating system up to date and using a device passcode or biometric lock.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
